Yoga For Families And Children In Basel

Yogabloom – Building Community through Yoga. Yoga In Basel for Families and Children

The story of Yogabloom in Basel

An article featuring Emily Pease, co-owner of Yogabloom.

When Emily first arrived in Basel, starting a yoga studio was not part of her plan. Fifteen years ago, neither Basel nor owning a studio was on her radar.

Emily’s journey to Basel began with a love of travel and a desire for new experiences. She met her partner and now co-owner of Yogabloom, Sandi Georgiew, in Basel while teaching together. The couple hosted a Family Yoga retreat and planted the first seeds of what would become Yogabloom, a thriving studio in the heart of Basel.

Yogabloom is more than a yoga studio; it embodies Emily and Sandi’s vision for their own family—a warm, familial space designed to foster connection, mindfulness, and joy.

“Yogabloom feels like home,” Emily shares. “It is a space intentionally designed and lovingly built to reflect our values and the foundations of yoga. Being at the heart of this vibrant community is both an honor and a joy.”

Yoga and Family Connections

For Emily, yoga is deeply personal. Her firstborn daughter was the inspiration behind her very first family yoga class. What began as a way to share the physical benefits of yoga — flexibility, strength, and body awareness—evolved into something much deeper.

“Yoga teaches me to pause, to be present with my loved ones, and to approach challenges with patience and compassion,” Emily says. These principles are not just ideas she teaches her students; they are the guiding principles she strives to embody in her family life.

Owning a studio allows her to weave her personal and professional worlds together, creating a space that nurtures connection both within her community and her own household. “My children are my greatest teachers,” she adds. “They remind me to embrace imperfection and find ease in the flow of life.”

Yoga and family connection

A space for every generation

Yogabloom offers a range of classes designed to bring the benefits of yoga to all ages, including children 2 to 12 years old. Classes provide children with opportunities to build confidence, develop new skills, and playfully experience yoga and mindfulness.

From Family Yoga sessions on Sundays, which foster bonding through movement and imagination, to playful glow-in-the-dark yoga (Glowga) adventures, Aerial Yoga classes, and yearly Summer Yoga Camps for children 6 to 12 years old, there is something for every child to explore.

A warm welcome to international families

Yogabloom’s community is as diverse as the city of Basel itself, welcoming families from all over the world alongside a strong local Swiss presence. The studio is a place where a blend of different cultures and languages creates a warm and inclusive space where everyone feels at home.

“Many of our international students find us shortly after arriving in Basel,” Emily shares. “We love introducing them to others who are already settled, both in the city and in their yoga practice.

Emily’s advice for families new to Basel

Relocating to a new city can be both exciting and overwhelming. Emily’s advice for expat families is rooted in the principles of yoga:

  • Stay Open and Curious: Treat relocation like a yoga practice. Approach it with openness and give yourself time to adjust.

  • Find Community: Joining a local yoga studio like Yogabloom can be a wonderful way to meet like-minded people and build connections. Many lasting friendships have begun here.

  • Practice Presence: During the chaos of moving, yoga can help you stay grounded and present.

  • Explore Together: Use yoga as a foundation for quality family time, whether it is practicing together or exploring your new surroundings with mindfulness.
